The licensing model
Starter is open source under MIT. Paid products are source-available under a one-project commercial license: use and modify them for your project with your whole team, but do not publish, share, resell, or turn the source into a competing template.
1. Two license tracks
Saasflare uses different licenses for different materials. The public Saasflare Starter repository is licensed under MIT. Paid Saasflare product source code, private repositories, paid documentation, and related proprietary materials are licensed under the Commercial Source License below unless an order expressly states otherwise.
Third-party and open-source dependencies keep their original licenses. This page does not replace notices included with those dependencies.
2. Saasflare Starter — MIT
The public Starter repository is governed by the MIT License included in that repository. MIT permits use, copying, modification, merging, publication, distribution, sublicensing, and sale of copies, subject to preserving the required copyright and permission notice.
The MIT license applies only to files released in the MIT-licensed Starter repository. It does not make paid products, private repositories, Saasflare branding, or Company services open source.
3. Commercial Source License grant
After full payment and delivery, Saasflare grants the purchaser a worldwide, non-exclusive, non-sublicensable license to use, copy internally, modify, and deploy the paid source included in the order for one Covered Project, subject to this license.
The license is perpetual for the version and updates lawfully received, unless terminated for a material breach that is not cured. It does not transfer ownership of the paid source or Saasflare intellectual property.
4. Covered Project and authorized users
A “Covered Project” is one SaaS product, business application, or commercially related product family identified by the purchaser. Its production and staging environments, APIs, worker services, mobile or desktop clients, marketing sites, and internal administration tools count as one project when they support the same product or business.
The purchaser may be an individual or one legal entity. Its employees and contractors may use the paid source solely to work on the Covered Project. There is no per-seat license fee, but the purchaser remains responsible for every authorized user and must limit source access to people who need it and are bound to confidentiality.
A separate unrelated product, client, legal entity, or commercial project requires a separate license unless the order expressly includes multiple projects.
5. What you may do
For the Covered Project, you may:
- Read, run, copy internally, and modify the paid source.
- Deploy the Covered Project to accounts and infrastructure controlled by the purchaser.
- Operate unlimited development, preview, staging, and production environments for the Covered Project.
- Combine the paid source with your own code and third-party components whose licenses permit it.
- Sell access to, subscriptions for, or services delivered by the Covered Project without paying Saasflare a revenue share.
- Allow employees and contractors to contribute under the access and confidentiality requirements above.
- Keep and use lawfully received versions after updates or support end, subject to the restrictions below.
6. What you may not do
You may not:
- Publish, open-source, disclose, upload, or otherwise make paid source available outside authorized users.
- Sell, rent, sublicense, transfer, or distribute the paid source by itself or as a template, starter kit, boilerplate, component library, source-code product, course bundle, or substantially similar offering.
- Use the paid source to create a product whose primary purpose is to compete with Saasflare by providing substantially the same source code or reusable development foundation to other developers.
- Share private repository invitations, download links, credentials, or purchased files with another person, project, client, or legal entity.
- Remove or obscure proprietary, copyright, attribution, or license notices included with paid source.
- Use paid source in violation of law, sanctions, export controls, or third-party rights.
7. Client work and transfers
You may use paid source while building the Covered Project for a client only if the client is the purchaser or the license is expressly assigned to that client project. One purchase cannot be reused across unrelated client projects.
You may transfer the license together with a sale of the entire Covered Project or the legal entity that owns it, provided the buyer accepts this license, receives no broader rights than you had, and you stop using and retaining paid source outside the transferred project. Contact Saasflare so repository access can be updated.
No other assignment or transfer is permitted without written approval from Saasflare.
8. Ownership and your work
Saasflare and its licensors retain ownership of paid source, private documentation, product names, logos, and other proprietary materials. The purchaser owns its business data, customer data, content, credentials, original code, and modifications that are independently created, subject to Saasflare’s continuing ownership of the underlying paid source.
This license does not grant trademark rights or permission to imply that Saasflare sponsors, certifies, or operates the Covered Project.
9. Updates, repository access, and support
Updates included with a purchase are licensed on the same terms. “Lifetime updates” means access, without another license fee, to updates Saasflare generally releases for the purchased products while Saasflare continues to maintain and distribute them. It does not guarantee perpetual maintenance or include separately launched future products unless the order says so.
Private repository access and support are delivery mechanisms, not the license itself. Saasflare may change the repository host or delivery method. Loss of repository access does not revoke the perpetual right to use versions already lawfully received, unless this license is terminated for breach.
10. Termination for breach
This license terminates if the purchaser materially violates its restrictions and does not cure the violation within 14 days after written notice, or immediately if paid source is intentionally published, resold, or shared as a competing source product.
After termination, the purchaser must stop using and deploying paid source, remove it from repositories and systems under its control, and ensure authorized users do the same. Accrued payment obligations, ownership provisions, restrictions, disclaimers, and liability limits survive.
11. Warranty and liability
Paid source and documentation are provided “as is” and “as available” to the maximum extent permitted by law. Saasflare does not guarantee that source is error-free, secure against every threat, compatible with every third-party change, or suitable for a particular regulatory or business requirement.
The disclaimers and liability limits in the Terms of Service apply to this license. Nothing excludes rights or liabilities that cannot lawfully be excluded.
12. Questions and precedence
An order may grant additional projects or rights. If an order expressly conflicts with this Commercial Source License, the order controls for that purchase. Otherwise, this license controls the use of paid source.
